Kerr's Tyres supporting Tyre Safety Week

2 October 2014

Kerr's Tyres, with centres in Antrim, Belfast and Coleraine, is supporting Tyre Safety Week 2014 as part of their commitment to the Northern Ireland Tyre Safety Association (NITSA) and the National Tyre Distributors' Association (NTDA).

Tyre Safety Week 2014 takes place from 6th - 12th October with an emphasis on educating the general public of the potential dangers of tyre old tyres and urging people to check their tyres.

Tyres are the only contact vehicles have with the road so it is essential that they have the minimum tread depth of 1.6mm and are free from damage. Tyre manufacturers recommend you regularly check the age of your tyres as well as the condition, tread depth and pressure to ensure your tyres are performing to your vehicle's specification. You can check your tyre age by looking at the side of your tyre for a four digit code with the first two digits indicating the week of manufacture while the third and fourth digits represent the year, e.g. a tyre label reading 1711 was made in the 17th week of 2011.

Norman Kerr of Kerr's Tyres is encouraging people to check their tyres during Tyre Safety Week 2014, saying:
"It is really important that people understand the risks involved with aged tyres - tyres can deteriorate over time, leading to reduced performance which can in turn affect safety, increase the risk of reduced grip and possible tyre failure.

During Tyre Safety Week, we are offering free no obligation tyre safety checks at our three centres in Antrim, Belfast and Coleraine, feel free to call in and we will ensure your tyres are going to keep you safely on the road."

The correct safety checks can help you to avoid getting three penalty points per tyre on your driving licence as well as fines for having tyres worn beyond the legal minimum limit on your vehicle - it could also save your life!
